On Saturday, Sept. 14, the Greater Sayville Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for By a Thread in downtown Sayville.
The tailor shop has been in business since 2012, originally in a storefront by Subway in Sayville. The new digs are on Main Street behind the Catbird Seat.
Owner Caitlin Collins, who is also a professor at the Fashion Institute of Technology, has been a board member for the chamber of commerce for several years.
Services include tailoring, reupholstery, boat cushions, and sewing lessons.
The unique and moody maximalist space contains previous and current sewing projects from Collins, the latter of which including a tartan kilt for a pipe band.
President emerita Eileen Tyznar said Collins was “the most creative, talented, and humble” person she knew.
